Stored in a climate controlled vault since 1938, the complete intact set of 20 portfolios and 20 books is in pristine condition and has all 2,220 of Curtis’ photographs produced as hand-pulled intaglio photogravures. From the dramatic landscapes of the American West and moving Portraits, to pictures of every day working and ceremonial life, the collection shows the Indians at the height of their 1800’s culture. Encompassing over 80 Indian Tribes of the Southwest, Plains, Plateau and Northwest, the body of work effectively preserves our Western American History, as well as Native American History and Culture.
